On August 20, 2005, the Washington, D.C. Alumnae Foundation celebrated the grand opening of its house/headquarters at 2728 Sherman Avenue NW, Washington, D.C. This property was donated to the Foundation by the D.C. Council on Clothing for Kids, Inc. upon its disbandment as a 501 (C) (3) organization. Mrs. Annette C. Reid is the former CEO and President of the DC Council on Clothing for Kids. The Foundation extends its sincere appreciation to Mrs. Reid, her family, and the Board of Directors for donating this house to the Foundation. The Sherman Avenue property also is an historic landmark once lived in by the legendary Duke Ellington. The house currently is occupied by the Metropolitan/Delta Adult Literacy Council (M/DALC), a non-profit organization established in 1983 as an outgrowth of the Washington, D.C. Alumnae Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.'s literacy committee. M/DALC works to enable adults and families to acquire basic level literacy skills, including reading, writing, listening, speaking, mathematics, and technology.
